It’s 1938, and Nicholas Winton, a London stockbroker, decides to leave his comfortable life and head to war-torn Prague. This remarkably humble man, along with his friends and mother, joins forces to rescue as many children as possible from Prague. Nicholas Winton's parents understood the plight of refugees firsthand. They had fled German Nazism, changing their family name from the original Wertheimer to make it sound more British. They were Jewish, but their son, as a young child, was baptized in the Anglican Church, although he later became an agnostic. Barbara Winton (Wertheimer) instilled in Nicholas the most important Jewish value: kindness. Sir Nicholas George Winton (Wertheimer) saved 669 children.
